spiders

Australia is host to many eight legged creatures, some of the most dangerous on Earth. Don't panic!

The Red-back is a small, black, 'hourglass' shaped spider, with a red stripe down its back. They inhabit woodpiles, and are sometimes found around seats of outdoor dunnies, so look out before you sit! Only the female is deadly, but apply ice and get bites checked out immediately anyway.

The Funnel Web is an infamous Australian spider, one of the most deadly on the planet. These reddish brown, hairy creatures live in the dark, moist spots, near the ground. If you're bitten, apply pressure and immobilise the area with a splint, then get to a hospital...fast!
There's an enormous brown, hairy spider called the Huntsman which grows up to 15cm across. It might look scarier than other spiders, but its' actually harmless! If you find one at home you're in luck as they'll eat other insects. Unles you're a hopeless arachnophobic, just leave it alone for some natural insect control.
